Dr. Kecia Leathers Rogers

Dr. Kecia Leathers Rogers is a highly motivated and results oriented educator with twenty-six years of experience in Durham Public Schools. Dr. Rogers, a native of Durham, North Carolina is married with two children. Dr. Rogers has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, Master of Arts in Elementary Education as well as a Master of School Administration and Supervision from North Carolina Central University. She earned a Doctor of Education in Leadership from High Point University. Dr. Rogers taught ten years at Southwest Elementary school before being selected as a prestigious North Carolina Principal’s Fellow. In addition, Dr. Rogers has nine years of experience working as a web designer, course developer and Early Childhood undergraduate instructor at North Carolina Central University. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Leadership is her passion. Dr. Rogers has twelve years of teaching experience, two years of experience as a middle school assistant principal, six years of experience as a successful elementary principal and six years of experience as an effective middle school principal for a total of 26 years in education.

Dr. Rogers contends, all of her experiences as a teacher, administrator, wife, and mother have prepared her for the challenging yet rewarding profession as an inspiring visionary and strong instructional leader. One of the first things you will notice about Dr. Rogers is that she is very much a teacher at heart and by action. First and foremost, Dr. Rogers believes school is about students and learning. “Everything we do and the decisions we make are based on our students’ needs.” She loves children and enjoys being in the classroom. Dr. Rogers is a servant leader and views herself as a leader of leaders. She strongly believes students, teachers, families and the community should be inspired and empowered to act within a school community. Leading with her heart, head and hands are key characteristics of her leadership style.

As an instructional leader, her mission is to put students’ needs first while promoting academic excellence and closing achievement gaps. Fostering a collaborative learning community in which all stakeholders problem-solve and analyze data to meet the individual needs of every learner is her commitment. Dr. Rogers’ personal mantra is to Engage Students, Support Staff, Involve Parents, Accept No Excuses, & Pass it on!
